Signing of a MOU between the ACS and the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) , 4th March 2011  The main objective of this project is to explore and increase the ACS’ capacity for strategic planning in the entire Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) process, thereby raising the quality and capacity not only of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHS) but also of Disaster Risk Reduction organisations, in order to provide services for safety and preparedness with respect to naturals hazards and, as a result, in the long term, allow Caribbean societies to be better prepared to deal with the adverse effects of natural disasters and the harmful effects of climate change.  Furthermore, the Caribbean society will benefit since, through this project, it will receive early warnings of natural disasters, which will be seen and communicated at the local level, disaster management at the national level will be more organised and there will be improved co-operation among bodies and reduced economic and human losses
