About Guadeloupe (France)
The islands that form Guadeloupe are the most northerly of the Windward Islands group. Guadeloupe is an archipelago composed of the mainland Guadeloupe, la Désirade, Les Saintes and Marie-Galante. The capital is Basse-Terre on Basse-Terre, but the principal commercial centre is Pointe-à-Pitre on Grande-Terre. Bananas, sugar and tourism are important foreign exchange earners.
