NR/029/2013

Port of Spain, Trinidad (August 14th, 2013) – The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, Luis Fernando Carrera, paid a courtesy visit to the Chargé d’affaires a. i. and Director of Sustainable Tourism, Julio Orozco at the Secretariat of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS).

The Minister was on official visit to Trinidad and Tobago to sign agreements in the areas of culture, tourism, energy and investment between the Governments of Trinidad and Tobago and Guatemala. He is also expected to visit Guyana and Barbados to further bi-lateral talks with those countries.

Minister Carrera commended the ACS on its continued efforts in facilitating discussion, dialogue and cooperation among its Member States, describing the ACS’ role as ‘crucial in strengthening regional integration,’ highlighting the success of this year’s Summit in Haiti as testament to the work of the ACS.

“The ACS has provided a platform for discussion and collaboration between Central America and the Caribbean and continues to be drivers of the relationship between the two. The promotion of such can only be good for the Greater Caribbean Region,” he remarked in an interview conducted with the local media.

ACS Director of Sustainable Tourism, Mr. Julio Orozco, echoed the sentiments of the Minister, underlining ACS’ intent to further develop the relationship among countries of the Greater Caribbean region, more specifically between Central America and the Caribbean.
