Mexico will host the VI Summit of the ACS

Port of Spain, (March 27th, 2014) President of Mexico, His Excellency Enrique Pena Nieto will address the opening ceremony of The Sixth Summit of Heads of States and/or Government of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) which takes place in Mérida, Mexico from April 30th 2014.

 

Also listed to deliver remarks are ACS Secretary General His Excellency Ambassador Alfonso Múnera and Mexican Nobel Prize winner, His Excellency Mario Molina. The Summit takes place at the Yucatan Siglo XXI Convention Centre.

 

One of the highlights of the Summit is a presentation of the “New Initiatives for the Benefit of the Caribbean” offered by the government of Mexico and dialogue on that presentation. Also down for discussion is an evaluation of the Plan of Action of Pétion-Ville, which came out of the last Summit in Haiti.

 

Prior to the actual convening of the Summit, there will be two other meetings, the first being the Preparatory Meeting of the 7th Extraordinary Meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Association, on Monday April 28th, during which the agenda and other procedural matters would be approved.

 

The day would also include two work sessions the first dealing with the Draft Declaration of Merida, while the second would discuss the draft evaluation of the Plan of Action of Pétion Ville. Participants in both sessions would include representatives of Member States, Associate Members and Founding Observers.

 

On Tuesday April 29th, the 7th Extraordinary Meeting of the Ministerial Council of the ACS will be convened. The session would close with remarks from the Chairman of the Ministerial Council, His Excellency Fernando Carrera, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala. Also at both these meetings, the Secretary General of the ACS, His Excellency Ambassador Alfonso Munera, would deliver remarks.
