ACS Secretary General meets with Prominent Economist Dr. Jeffrey Sachs

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, 22 March 2025 – The Secretary General of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), H.E. Noemi Espinoza Madrid, met with prominent economist Dr. Jeffrey Sachs, in his capacity as President of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UN SDSN).
Dr. Jeffrey Sachs is known for his work in economic development, global health, and the fight against poverty. As the President of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UN SDSN), he has played a key role in advancing global efforts toward achieving the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The meeting aimed to strengthen the ACS's mandate by expanding partnerships. The UN SDSN's expertise, particularly through the SDSN Caribbean hosted by UWI, holds potential for collaboration on key areas such as climate resilience, economic development, and capacity building to foster sustainable growth in the Greater Caribbean.
For example, Dr. Sachs mentioned training opportunities for Caribbean nations, while Secretary General Espinoza Madrid outlined the ACS's 30-year legacy and her revitalized vision for its future. Both parties recognized the potential to integrate expertise and resources to advance their shared goals.
This meeting represents an initial step towards formalizing cooperation between the ACS and UN SDSN, with a focus on supporting the sustainable development of the Greater Caribbean.
