Dialogue between ACS and ECLAC Focused on Sustainable Development of the Caribbean

Santiago, Chile – April 1, 2025 – The Secretary-General of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), H.E. Noemí Espinoza Madrid, met with José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), to discuss issues of common interest and explore new ways to strengthen regional cooperation.

During the meeting, Secretary-General Espinoza Madrid shared her vision for revitalizing the Association, emphasizing emerging areas and the prioritization of the Caribbean Sea. Possible technical collaborations were also explored, leveraging the expertise that ECLAC can offer in the priority areas of the ACS.

The Executive Secretary of ECLAC highlighted the importance of countries negotiating jointly with cooperation institutions and intergovernmental entities. Both parties agreed to hold a forthcoming bilateral meeting to discuss specific issues to promote the sustainable development agenda in the Caribbean region.

In addition, preparations were discussed for the 10th Summit of Heads of State of the ACS, which will take place in Cartagena, Colombia, on May 30, 2025. ECLAC has confirmed its attendance at this important event.

Secretary-General Espinoza Madrid stressed the importance of this meeting to consolidate the relationship between both organizations and to advance the sustainable development agenda of the Caribbean region.
