36th Meeting of the Executive Board of the Ministerial Council

Port of Spain, (May, 01, 2012) – Representatives of ACS Member Countries assembled at the ACS Headquarters to attend the 36th Meeting of the Executive Board of the Ministerial Council on 30th April, 2012.
The Chairman of the Ministerial Council, Mr Tomás Duncan Jurado, opened the meeting by formally introducing the new Secretary General Alfonso Múnera Cavadía to the delegations present at the meeting. Representatives from the various delegations took the opportunity to welcome the new Secretary General and conveyed their support and best wishes to him during his tenure in office.
In his opening remarks, Secretary General Múnera responded with gratitude and expressed his enthusiasm and commitment to working with Member States and staff to achieve the goals of the ACS. “We are going to set new aims, strategies and projects. We are going to build a more visible organization, a natural space that work for the welfare and social development of the Greater Caribbean”, he added.
The meeting focused on the upcoming ACS Summit proposed to take place in Haiti tentatively in November of this year. It was agreed that Haiti and the ACS Secretariat should work together to prepare a draft agenda for the V Summit to be submitted for the approval of member countries.
The Chairman closed the meeting by commending the Ambassador of Costa Rica, Ricardo Thompson Thompson for his work as head of the Trinidad and Tobago Diplomatic Corps during his tenure and bade him farewell and best wishes. Secretary General Múnera and the other delegations also expressed similar sentiments.
