The Director General of the Regional Council of Martinique visits the ACS

Port of Spain (April 15, 2011) – The Secretariat of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) welcomed Ms. Lise Moutamalle, Director General of the Regional Council of Martinique, who paid a courtesy visit to the Secretary General, Ambassador Luis Fernando Andrade Falla on April 15, 2011 for the purpose of deepening the bonds that exist between the Association and Martinique, which is an Associate Member of the ACS under the statutes of France. Also present at the meeting was the ACS Transport and Disaster Risk Reduction Advisor, Mr. Mathieu Fontanaud.

The Secretary General welcomed Ms. Moutamalle and took the opportunity to notify her of the revision and structure of the ACS agenda, as well as the major accomplishments achieved in its focal areas: Disaster Risk Reduction, Transport, Tourism, Trade, protection and the Caribbean Sea Commission (CSC).

During the course of said meeting, Ms. Moutamalle expressed Martinique’s great interest in and support for the Caribbean Sea Commission. She also made mention of the article “Governance of the Caribbean Sea” published in the 10th edition of the ACS Yearbook, in which Mr. Serge Letchimy, President of the Regional Council of Martinique, expresses support for the initiative undertaken by the ACS to protect and conserve the Caribbean Sea.

The Secretary General thanked the Director General for her visit which, according to him, facilitated an exchange of ideas and experiences in areas of common interest, with special emphasis on the CSC.
