Secretary General of the ACS goes on official mission to Haiti

(Port of Spain, January 10th 2013) The Secretary General of the Association of Caribbean States, Ambassador Alfonso Múnera is scheduled to travel to Haiti to meet with government officials on January 11, 2013.

 

This meeting will be a follow up of interests expressed by the President of Haiti, His Excellency Michel Martelly to host the 5th ACS Summit which will take place on April 26th this year. Ambassador Múnera will hold talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Pierre-Richard Casimir, Mr. Watson Denis who is the coordinator for the V Summit as well as other officials from the government of Haiti to ensure that the matters relating to the planning of this event are addressed.

 

The decision to host the 5th ACS Summit in Haiti has been well received by ACS Member States as it seeks to reinforce the positive image of Haiti as a viable tourism and foreign investment destination. Also, the ACS will highlight its role as a key-player in addressing the current needs of Haiti and the rest of the region under its thematic areas of Sustainable Tourism, Trade, Transport and Disaster Risk Reduction.

 

At the conclusion of this meeting Secretary General Alfonso Múnera hopes to reinforce the ACS’s commitment to working with Haiti in garnering regional support for the ACS Summit which will offer a platform for addressing the needs of Member States within the Greater Caribbean.
