Secretary General of the ACS participated in the 17th Conference of the Presidents of the Outermost Region and the Conference of Regional Cooperation in the Greater Caribbean, Martinique

(Martinique, November 3rd - 5th 2011) Secretary General Luis Fernando Andrade Falla of the ACS and Advisor to Disaster Risk Reduction and Transport Directorate, Mathieu Fontanaud attended the 17th Conference of the Presidents of the Outermost Region and the Conference of Regional Cooperation in the Greater Caribbean which took place on November 3rd, 4th and 5th 2011 in Fort-de-France, Martinique.
This mission served to initiate cooperation with the French Agency of Development and to confirm the cooperation of the University of the French West Indies and Guyana as well as to strengthen cooperation with the Regional Council of Martinique. Furthermore, Secretary General Andrade Falla participated in the activities relating to the exchange of good practices and experiences in cooperation between the Outermost Region and the African, Caribbean, Pacific (ACP) Group of States in order to achieve the integration of these territories in the geography: environment.
In the context of this conference Secretary General Andrade Falla offered a presentation on the activities of the ACS presenting the major projects of the different focal areas for instance the Caribbean Sea Commission. The meeting also provided a platform for the promotion of and fundraising for the advancement of the project “Map of Maritime Routes in the Greater Caribbean”.
Additionally, the President of the Regional Council of Martinique expressed interest in signing a cooperation agreement with the ACS in the context of the Ministerial Council meeting. At the same time, he also conveyed his interest in supporting the Caribbean Sea Initiative.
Several contacts were made with the Presidents of the Regional Councils of Martinique, Guadeloupe, Guyane, St Martin and St Barthelemy together with directors of cooperation from organizations such as CARIFORUM, OECS and ACP.
