New Spanish Ambassador presents credentials to Association of Caribbean States

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago – February 7, 2025 – The Secretary-General of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), H.E. Noemí Espinoza Madrid met with the Ambassador of Spain to Trinidad and Tobago, H.E. María Cristina Pérez Gutiérrez, to discuss avenues for strengthening cooperation. The meeting took place on February 7, 2025, at the ACS Secretariat Headquarters.
Ambassador Gutiérrez presented her credentials to the ACS Secretary-General. This meeting provided a valuable opportunity to review the current state of relations between the ACS and Spain, identify areas of mutual interest, and discuss potential avenues for future collaboration.
Secretary-General Espinoza emphasized the importance of revitalizing the ACS and highlighted the need for increased collaboration and a renewed focus on achieving concrete outcomes that address the pressing challenges faced by the Greater Caribbean.
Spain has held Observer Status with the ACS since 2014 and has actively participated in ACS events and meetings. Spain has historically supported and engaged with the ACS, emphasizing its political interest in the Association’s agenda, particularly in climate justice. Secretary-General Espinoza emphasized the importance of translating this political interest into concrete cooperation.
The meeting also explored synergies between the ACS and the Ibero-American Summit, which Spain will host in 2026. Secretary-General Espinoza invited Spain to participate actively in the upcoming ACS Summit, capitalizing on the Association’s 30th anniversary to strengthen its mandate and enhance the visibility of the Caribbean on the global stage.
