In a meeting with the Chargé d’Affaires Jorge Contreras of the Embassy of Guatemala in Trinidad and Tobago, ACS Secretary General Rodolfo Sabonge expressed support for the people of Guatemala, recently hit by tropical storm Eta, which left approximately 150 dead and many displaced.

SG Sabonge said the ACS stands with the people of Guatemala in this difficult moment. “We are all vulnerable, the entire Caribbean is vulnerable and there is one crisis after the other. Disaster risk reduction is one the areas that the Association focuses on, and now, more than ever, it is vital that we strengthen this area.”

Mr. Contreras and SG Sabonge also discussed the impact of climate change, tourism, trade, transport and the effect that COVID-19 has had on the people of Guatemala. He congratulated SG Sabonge on behalf of the Government of Guatemala. “We are very happy that you are here as Secretary General with all of your experience, we know that you are going to do an excellent job.”

At present, Guatemala is Vice-Chair of the Ministerial Council and Chair of the Special Committee on Cooperation and Resource Mobilisation.
