About Aruba
Aruba signed the Convention Establishing the ACS in December 1998, to be admitted as an Associate Member. It lies 25 kilometres off the coast of Venezuela and 68 kilometres to the west of Curaçao.
The capital is Oranjestad. Originally part of the Netherlands Antilles, Aruba achieved separate status within the Kingdom of the Netherlands in 1986. There are some small industries, and there is an oil refinery, but tourism and financial services are the major economic activities.
