About Saint Barthelemy (France)
On discovering this country situated in the Caribbean, Christopher Columbus named the country after his brother, Bartoloméo. Today, however, the country is one that forms part of the French West Indies in the north-eastern Caribbean. St. Barthélemy, known for its beautiful beaches attracts many tourists each year. The economy is therefore strongly supported by tourism. With a population of 7,367 (July 2011), St. Barthélemy has a culture filled with French and even Swedish influences, as is reflected in the name of its Capital, Gustavia.
